Android vs. iOS, in concentrated form
I’ve been using my iPhone for over two years now, and getting caught up in the iOS vs. Android debate is inevitable.  Most of my friends and family are smartphone users, so I have had plenty of opportunities to discuss the modern Coke vs. Pepsi quandary, and I’ve realized something: there’s a trend in the debate that almost always seems to reduce to some version of this same...

I’ve been doing some research for a little article I want to write about social media and its role in the recent spate of revolutions and heightened instability in Africa (Ivory Coast, Egypt, Tunisia, etc). So a quick Google search for “Ivory Coast Facebook | Twitter” found this little FB page gem. Epic.

What Your 16-Hour Workday Says About You!
jessiechar: You’re a really hard worker Your time is poorly managed You don’t know what to do with your life Your boss knows you’re gullible At least 40% of your diet consists of pre-packaged food You send out work emails at inappropriate hours You have no perspective on life You don’t sleep enough for proper brain function You have very little self-respect Your salary should be higher,...

I love me a good ball game, but something needs to... →
The first half of this article does a fantastic job of glancing off the surface of something that is truly wrong with our society and has been for a long time (the second half only corroborates my argument by taking an article with such a great headline and spending two whole paragraphs rambling about the NBA).  I love watching a ball game over some beer and wings, but I do take issue with the...

spaghettivongole asked: You are placed in the unenviable position of having to compete for the right to stay alive.
You will be matched against a person of your own gender in a series of five events: an 800-meter run, a game of scrabble, a three round boxing match, a debate over the legalization of late-term abortion (Scored and officiated by reputable collegiate judges), and the math portion of the SAT.

Why Yahoo! isn't making it.
Yahoo! is falling apart as a company for one simple reason: Their obsession with the color purple. It’s a fucking awful color. Seriously.  Nothing good ever comes of the color purple.  Save for that book.  You know.  ”The Color Purple”.

Mr. Margiotta has been watching too many Michelle Pfeiffer movies. Concentrating children below the poverty line in the same schools doesn’t work. Empirical evidence proves this. This isn’t “Dangerous Minds”.

spaghettivongole asked: You work in an office. Generally, you are popular with your coworkers. However, you discover that there are currently two rumors circulating the office gossip mill, and both involve you. The first rumor is that you got drunk at the office holiday party and had sex with one of your married coworkers. This rumor is completely true, but most people don’t believe it. The second rumor is that you...

Stupid Human Tricks
I truly believe that computer scientists over the years have intentionally made concepts more complex than what is necessary in order to validate some sort of smart person Joe Pesci-esque inferiority complex that makes us go out of our way to try and convince real scientists that what we are doing is, in fact, science. Since I also happen to study a real science, I’m here to tell you that you’re...

This “doctor” makes me ill.  The part where Anderson Cooper calls him a liar to his face is awesome.  And the part where Jenny McCarthy claims that she is part of an “intelligent group of people” made me pee my pants with laughter.

Flickr App (Another Metro UIX case) →
The first part of this video demos the new Flickr app for WinPho7.  Obviously the Metro UIX is prevalent, since… well, everything on WinPho7 uses the Metro experience. But notice the 2nd half of the video with the slate-based application. Windows 7 based slates run bog-standard Win7.  Which means you can get the same experience on your desktop.  Once the app starts shipping anyway. The trend...

MetroTwit: A Windows App That Looks Good →
MetroTwit is a poorly named but wonderfully designed desktop Twitter client for Windows, and its a prime example of the direction that the Windows UIX needs to be headed. It is based on the “Metro” UI, which is what is used on Windows Phone 7, which is in turn based on the UI used on the Zune PMP as well as the Zune media player desktop client. Brilliant.  I’ll say it again....
