Asking The Audience
So, one of my New Years resolutions was to travel… a lot. Like, at least once a month. It’s been pretty cool so far. Mexico in January/February. Melbourne, FL in February. I’ve been couch surfing in Pensacola most weekends in March (that doesn’t really count but whatever). And this weekend I’m gonna hit up Orlando.
But for all of these trips, they were all...

Follow-up On That Whole Google Thing
John Gruber, who I normally regard as a voice of reason in tech analysis and Apple news, has apparently lost it. At least that’s my opinion.
Admittedly, there’s something to be said about actually considering his point as a valid “other side” to the argument. That’s up to you. But I think he’s completely off base. Insinuating that the whole thing was a...

Google Makes Intelligent Android Decision, Gets...
Google has decided to ask Android phone manufacturers to sign a clause that gives Google the right to review changes they make to the operating System.
I’m failing to see the problem here.
Background: Android is, with some sticky caveats, an open source operating system. This means that any John Q. Programmer can acquire the source code, bolt some chairs to it, and redistribute it. ...

I Hate Economists
Brett Arrends wrote an article, Is That iPad 2 Really Worth $2,000?:
When someone asks me if I’ve changed my mind yet and now want one of Apple’s new iPads, I tell them: “Well, even if I did, I probably wouldn’t want to spend $2,000 on one.”
Wow. And before you think he just doesn’t know how much it costs… he knows.
If I don’t spend that...

Your daily dose of Tea Party insanity
For those of you who live under thousands of miles of rock, the Tea Party is a racist, elitist, for-profit organization led by Crazy People™ like Sarah Palin who enjoy saying things like this:
What is keeping America’s fertility rate up are immigrants - both legal and illegal.
Okay, not so bad.
Skip ahead a bit, brother:
There are those in America who are continuously attacking...
warfaremystic asked: Mkay, so in your About, you describe yourself as a wannabe hipster. I think I'm finally realizing that I am a hipster-in-denial. I don't want to be one. They annoy me. But all the pieces seem to fall into place: I worked at a co-op, I'm a vegetarian(ish), I have a tumblr, I hate cars, I study social injustice, I wear skinny jeans and grandpa sweaters....ugh this is terrible....

Everyone on the Internet is Stupid
So AT&T is buying T-Mobile. My thoughts on this whole thing to come later.
T-Mobile was kind enough to put out an FAQ that apparently nobody understands.
What I mean by that is that it has led to a smattering of articles that basically say “T-Mobile isn’t getting the iPhone”.
To quote the TUAW article titled T-Mobile Says no iPhone:
The biggest question for Apple...

I Hate People Who Abuse Data
There’s an article that’s been circulating all day containing reference to a report from Blaze.io that has determined that Android 2.3 browsed the web around 50% faster than iOS 4.3 on an iPhone 4. The report is here.
It’s junk, and the half-assed disclaimer recently thumb-tacked to the top of the report stops just short of admitting as such.
I’m not saying that their...

Samsung Fails At Everything, Forever
Samsung is the absolute worst. Which probably follows from the fact that they are run by a veritable gangster.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab is a gigantic piece of fetid hag-fish stool that would serve the world better if every single one of them was set on fire and allowed to pollute the atmosphere with noxious chemical fumes. It really is such an abysmal product that it is more harmful to allow it...

House Republicans Legislate Global Warming in to...
The Republican-led House wants to pass an act that would prevent the EPA from regulating CO2 emissions. That’s stupid in its own right.
But when a House Democrat proposed an amendment that would at least acknowledge that plenty of scientific evidence is there to show global warming is real, all of the Republicans in the House voted it down.
Rep. Ed Markey (D, Mass.):
“I rise in...

Pepsi is making its two “Throwback” drinks a staple instead of an occasional promotion.
Pepsi and Mountain Dew Throwback both use real sugar instead of High Fructose Corn Syrup; your stance on HFCS and its effects on health notwithstanding, I support this move because I think they taste more awesomer that way.

Bon Jovi, in an interview with The Sunday Times:
Kids today have missed the whole experience of putting the headphones on, turning it up to 10, holding the jacket, closing their eyes and getting lost in an album; and the beauty of taking your allowance money and making a decision based on the jacket, not knowing what the record sounded like, and looking at a couple of still pictures and...

Frenzy is an OS X only social network that uses your Dropbox account as a back-end. In other words, all of your personal information lives in your Dropbox; you control it. Frenzy leverages Dropbox shared folders to allow you to create a small social network where you control who is in it as well as what happens to your data. Clever.
Targeting only Dropbox users on OS X seems limiting, but...

Foursquare now playing Leap Frog, other playground...
TechCrunch’s MG Siegler:
In the location space, there’s something that has long been the missing link: a unified places database. The problem, of course, is that all the major players, Foursquare, Facebook, Google, Gowalla, Loopt, etc, have their own databases. But today Foursquare is taking the first steps towards unification — well, if the others play along.
The key being, if the...

My heart goes out to Japan and the Pacific Islands right now, however, I hope the United States government refrains from giving aid until they figure out the budget and deficit crises in our own country first. I get really tired of their irresponsibility with managing finances. For instance, can we please pull troops out of the middle east now? Stop throwing away money we don’t...

An Unanswered Question For the Recording Industry
I was listening to this NPR report on the way home from work today. It’s a good read/listen, I’d like to invite you to take the time to process it before going on. It’s okay, I’ll wait.
The recording industry is, at its core, completely and also transparently profit driven. They don’t have either the listener’s best interest or the artist’s best...

Pic from Download Squad
I like the new logo. I didn’t like the “lickable”, candy-like gloss on the original. I also found the lean-back one-point perspective to be a bit disorienting. It also felt a little cold to me sometimes, like I was looking at a Sentinel from The Matrix. I’d like to see this logo style percolate down in to the Google Chrome browser.

Looks like a lot of people never actually bothered to leave Greenbow, AlaBAMA!.
The takeaway is that the adage about Americans being xenophobes obviously isn’t that true, except for in the South, where it’s kinda true, but who’s surprised? Florida being the exception. Though if you’re from around here, it’s things like this that lead people to refer to us as...
